Frequently Asked Questions

  • Who Is The Enhance Protocol For ?
The Enhance Protocol is for any adult who is motivated to improve his or her cognitive functioning. We firmly believe that the greatest benefit of the protocol is in addressing the root causes of cognitive decline before they advance to the point that symptoms are noticeable. Alzheimer’s disease is often at work for 10 to 20 years before symptoms show up, so prevention and early intervention are very valuable. However, many of our clients are already living with dementia and we have seen exciting improvements and stabilization in them.
  • Are there people who are not good candidates for The Enhance Protocol?
Although we believe anyone can benefit from working to improve brain functioning, some people are not good candidates for The Enhance Protocol. Individuals who are in very late stages of dementia and not expected to live more than a few weeks generally do not have sufficient time to make meaningful progress in the protocol. Although we have many creative solutions and can coach through difficult situations, individuals who are extremely picky and refuse to eat in brain healthy ways are not good candidates for The Enhance Protocol. We are happy to schedule a free 30 minute consultation with anyone who may question whether The Enhance Protocol is right for their situation. Simply call us at 213-716-2972 to schedule an appointment.
  • Are there additional options other than enrolling in the full protocol?
A: Yes! For instance, if you just want to get lab work done, receive the report, have someone walk you through it to get started, and skip the ongoing coaching we can certainly help with that. You can also sign up just for coaching sessions, or to use the brain therapy devices. Please call us at 213-716-2972 and we will be happy to walk you through the process and schedule the next steps if you choose to pursue them.
  • I’m not sure I can afford the protocol.
Not to worry. We will work with you to develop a plan that best fits your budgets and needs. We offer payment plans and a variety of interventions if the full Enhance Protocol is not right for you. With the average cost of assisted living now running $5,000-$10,000 per month, the question might be, can you afford not to?
  • What kind of results can I expect if I participate in The Enhance Protocol?
A: We cannot guarantee any specific results for any participant since many factors influence a person’s response. How well a person complies with treatment recommendations, the level of his or her cognitive functioning, the root causes of cognitive impairment, and many other factors affect outcomes. In general, though, the majority of clients see improved cognitive test scores, greater energy levels, reduced pain, clearer thinking, and a better mood. We have seen clients with test scores of 16 out of 30 on a Montreal Cognitive Assessment improve to scores of 26 to 30 out of 30 within several months of treatment. We have seen clients who could not consistently put words together effectively begin speaking more fluently again. In cases where we have not seen such impressive gains in cognitive functioning, we have still noted greater stabilization for a long period of time. In the context of Alzheimer’s disease and other progressive dementias, even slowing or halting decline is a victory and we fight hard to help each client gain as much as possible from participating in The Enhance Protocol.
  • My loved one has dementia, but it’s not of the Alzheimer’s type. Can The Enhance Protocol benefit people with other types of dementia?"
Yes. We have worked with clients living with Lewy Body Dementia, Fronto-temporal Degeneration, Posterior Cortical Atrophy, Parkinson’s Dementia, Vascular Dementia, CTE, traumatic brain injury, and other conditions. If you have a question about whether we might be able to help, feel free to call 213-716-2972 and schedule a complimentary consultation.
  • I’m not interested in participating in The Enhance Protocol but really need help knowing how to interact better with the person living with dementia I am supporting. Can you help?
Absolutely! A substantial portion of Lindsey’s career as a PTA has been spent training family members and loved ones how to interact and care for people living with dementia. Please contact the Maryland Center for Brain Health at 213-716-2972 to schedule a consultation Lindsey.
  • Will Randy Vawdrey or another provider at the Maryland Center for Brain Health or A Mind for All Seasons become my doctor?
No. The Maryland Center for Brain Health operates in a consultation and coaching capacity and cannot take the place of your primary care provider. We believe it is very important for our clients to maintain a close relationship with their PCP and involve them in all aspects of their participation in our programs. We expect our clients to share recommendations we make with their PCPs and seek their additional guidance. We are very happy to consult directly with a client’s PCP to address questions, concerns, or differences of opinion and aim to establish collaborative and productive relationships that benefit our clients.
  • Do you take insurance?
In order to provide you with the best quality care, we do not currently accept insurance. We want clients to have the piece of mind that they can to pick up the phone and call for help any time they need it without worrying what the call will cost. Aside from the Enhance Protocol which is all encompassing, we do not have set package rate. Since everyone has different needs, and none of our brains are the same, we want to be demonstrate precise and personalized interventions to every client. That’s why we charge flat rates for different service packages. We have convenient options that provide unlimited access to our services for a specified amount of time.
